My name is Alanna and I work in Corporate Finance by day, and am a complete sports junkie by night! My health is important to me because when I am taking care of myself I manage my stress better, I have more energy, and overall I just feel better. I regularly play recreational sports, and ski on the weekends. About 5 years ago I was 50 lbs overweight. I had some health issues that didn’t allow me to work out and I wasn’t eating well or taking care of myself. When I got better I started playing basketball again and making more healthy nutritional choices. I was able to lose a lot of it on my own… but had hit a plateau for the past couple years.
I started working with Leigh last year when I realized that I wasn’t seeing additional benefit to my health from my current activities, even though I felt like I was putting a lot of work in. I had plateaued with my weight, and felt good, but wanted to feel GREAT. I am fairly active and eat reasonably well but had a lot of work stress and was not sleeping well. After a goal-setting session, I decided to focus on losing a few additional pounds (15 lbs!) and to feel good in a bikini on my winter vacation 🙂
We began strength training, and doing HIIT classes on top of my sports. She really worked to inspire me to continuously work harder to achieve that goal. She set me up with a nutrition plan that has taught me to pay attention to what is in the food I eat. When I began incorporating better nutrition (which was really mostly about portion control), the weight started coming off… even despite my occasional cookie habits!
The toughest part for me has been really paying attention to what I’m eating… but as I’ve gotten into better habits I’ve found that I crave things that are good for me instead of reaching for whatever is easy or close by. I am much more in tune with my body and can feel right away if I haven’t worked out as hard as I could or have been making some poor nutritional choices. This gives me the motivation to keep going so I just keep feeling better!
To date I’ve lost 14 lbs and over 3 inches overall, and I have decided to continue with my sessions. I have also noticed a huge benefit in my strength, which has led to better sleeping, better stress management and a feeling of overall improved vitality. I feel stronger when I run and play sports, and I am even starting to think about my next big goal!
